Group Bulletin November 2019

Welcome to the November edition of our group bulletin

  • Chairman’s message

Welcome to the Group Bulletin covering November and December, whilst we are only a few months into the season, it has been busy. We have enjoyed hosting the Provincial Grand Chapter at Southport, which went extremely well, and my sincere thanks are extended to all those of you who volunteered to act as stewards.

October saw us welcoming the Deputy Provincial Grand Master Phillip Gunning to the Installation meeting of South Liverpool Lodge which was a wonderful meeting.

On 2 November Excelsior Lodge celebrated the fiftieth anniversary of Les Garner  which was attended by our Assistant Provincial Grand Master Derek Parkinson and over 40 members and  guests including many from the Provinces of Cheshire and North Wales. I really enjoy attending the celebrations of members of ourg roup especially when the personal and Masonic history of the celebrant is disclosed and invariably prove to be extremely interesting.

Turning to the future, the Province has launched a new publicity initiative which will be linked into the new website and as such has announced training events for any member interested in being a publicity officer. I have sent the details of these training opportunities to each lodge secretary and Chapter scribe E so please contact them should you wish to attend.

There will a a number of installation meetings in the group before the end of the year and I encourage as many of you, especially lodge masters and chapter principals to attend and support our lodges and chapters, you will be assured of a warm welcome.

October saw us enjoy a wonderful social event when Mikey Powell, a winner of ‘Stars in their Eyes’ entertained many members and guests with his rendition of many songs old and new. It really was an enjoyable night and bodes well for the next social event on 21 December which sees the return of Asa Murphy to again entertain us with his wonderful singing. Please see the adverts for the event in the hall and book your tickets from the hall chairman, Mal Yates.

On 10 November, once again there will be a Remembrance Day Sunday lunch at the hall, hosted by  Derek Horrocks, please see the posters in the hall to book your tickets for what has always been a very enjoyable event.

As we approach the Festive Season, and the next bulletin will be in the New Year, may I take this opportunity to wish you all and your families a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy and Healthy New Year

Please continue to enjoy your Freemasonry especially here at Garston.

    Fraternal regards

A double celebration for Excelsior Lodge

  • Vice chairman’s report

Well, the first couple of events are over and appear to have been a success. A thank you must go to the group secretary and the vice captains for their hard work and leadership at Provincial Grand Chapter early last month.

Moving into November and we have a 50th Celebration with Excelsior Lodge and W Bro Les Garner, with a visit from our own Assistant Provincial Grand Master W Bro Derek J Parkinson. This is on Saturday 2 November 2019.

Later in the month we have an event to look forward to on Wednesday 20 November 2019. That is the visit from one of the Assistant to Provincial Grand Principals, E. Comp Colin J. Rowling at the Installation of Royal George Chapter, let us try and support this small but growing chapter.

As the lead in the group regarding the Holy Royal Arch, If I could please ask you all, particularly those who are members of the Royal Arch, if you could try and encourage those who have not yet joined to consider doing so. For many, this will be very enlightening and encourage them to further their Masonic knowledge, perhaps in other side orders also. Please don’t forget that we are all mentors in one way or another and should look to assist and encourage the junior brethren / companions on their Masonic journey enabling them to enjoy the fraternity to its fullest.

I hope to see you all at some point. I do hope that you continue to enjoy your Freemasonry.

    Next stop December and Christmas!
