The brethren of Excelsior Lodge No3580 and their ladies decided to donate the proceeds from their lady’s evening to the local cancer support charity Sunflowers. Lodge WM, Ian Goodman, who had experienced the work of Sunflowers in their support of his uncle, was delighted to be able to present a cheque for the magnificent sum of £550 on behalf of the lodge to senior fund raiser, Bobby McGee.
To quote from their own website, Founded in 1986, Sunflowers was set up by a group of people which had something in common; each had been affected by cancer. A self help support group emerged (Liverpool Cancer Care ) and grew, eventually becoming Sunflowers in 2011.
Sunflowers provides a unique support service to individuals and families affected by a cancer diagnosis in the Merseyside region. We provide counselling, complementary therapies, art and craft therapies, exercise classes and lots more, in a welcoming and safe environment. All of the activities and services we provide are aimed to:
- Help people affected by cancer avoid social isolation
- Help those affected by cancer stay physically active.
- Help those affected by cancer to maintain or improve their mental health and wellbeing.
Sunflowers is run by a small staff team, and a large number of experienced and skilled volunteers. We have a weekly schedule of classes and support services, and a varied range of events and courses running throughout the year.
Our services are free (or highly subsidised). To register or find out more about Sunflowers contact firstname.lastname@example.org
Sunflowers is based locally in Aigburth Road, and whilst it is hoped that you, your family or friends will never need their support, it is welcoming to know that such people dedicate so much time and effort in assisting during such difficult times.
